I'm trying to find Thomas Philip Tanswell, (born about 1835-39 in Bristol ) and his wife Mary Ann born 1838 in Pill/Easton in Gordano, in the 1861 census. I have them in subsequent ones, and also in 1851 before they were married. It's just the 1861 I can't find.
There is a Thomas Taurwell b 1840 in Bristol - he may be the one. The name is often transcribed incorrectly. Could someone check this for me please?

This is the Thomas Taurwell info for 1861..... I can see why it is transcribed as Taurwell, but it could just as easily be Tanswell......

I've just re-checked the image, and yes....it is Pill, not Poll as transcribed. Not the easiest image to read, I am afraid.

Many thanks for the look up. It is the right Thomas. The Emma (should be Lapping) is Mary Ann's sister, although her age should have been 20. I guess this was a difficult image for the person who transcribed it. I had no information on her other than her birth, so at least I know where she was in 1861.

Thanks for the information. I didn't have the exact date of Thomas' birth and certainly didn't know they were Wesleyan Methodist - that's interesting.
