Hi there
From ancestry marriage records St Nicholas Notts - James Crisp and Mary Ann Adams both this parish, 23 Oct 1777, children from IGI , baptisms
Mary Ann Adam 6 July 1779 Notts St Nicholas Hemus 12 Oct 1781 Notts St Mary Frances 12 Nov 1782 Notts St Mary Frances 7 Apr 1784 Notts St Mary Elizabeth 2 Feb 1788 Notts St Mary Hemus George 10 Nov 1789 Notst St Mary Sarah Ann 30 Aug 1792 Notts St Mary James 28 May 1794 Notts St Mary Charlotte 15 Apr 1796 Notts St Mary Ann 18 Apr 1798 Notts St Mary
Hemus 1781 is shown as Thomas on IGI (checked with Notts FHS CD and it is Hemus)
On IGI there is a baptism of a James Crisp 20 Jan 1755 Castlegate Meeting Independent Nottingham, father Hemas /Hemus Crisp (which looks a good match as James named 2 sons Hemus). Also from ancestry marriage records again Notts St Mary there is a marriage of Hemus Crisp to an Elisabeth Dodd 19 May 1751.
On IGI James 1755 has possible siblings baptised same place -
John 12 Aug 1759 Joseph Hemus 25 Nov 1752 Nathaniel 22 Dec 1762 Hemus 19 Apr 1768.
Also from IGI there is a possible baptism for his father Hemus Crisp 5 Aug 1729 High Pavement Presbyterian Notts, parents Nathaniel Crisp and Hannah. Possible sibling - Nathanael 29 Nov 1720 Castlegate Meeting Independent Notts, only father's name Nathanael shown so may / may not be correct.
Have fun

Thanks Shirl. You have correctly identified my CRISP/DODD ancestors. My enquiry was specifically concerning Mary Ann ADAMS, since I have been unable to find any clues to her origins (baptism/parents, etc.) over the last 25 years or so. Sorry if my enquiry was misleading. Public domain records draw a blank, so I was hoping there may be an ADAMS specialist out there somewhere in the UK who may have found her in records not listed. It is not clear whether she was a spinster, therefore born around the 1750's or perhaps a young widow, in which case as Mary Ann Something else may have married an ADAMS before this date beofre = CRISP.
BTw, your inferences on CRISP et al are wholly correct. If anyone is interested in CRISP, my One-Name study can be downloaded from my website. I have asked for any clues to Elizabeth DODD's origins in a separate posting.
Regards, Mark

Hi there
Good luck anyway, I haven't come across anything yet for a Mary Ann Adams, but will keep a look out; there was nothing on the Notts FHS baptism viewer with father's surname Adams, I also checked using a mother's name of Adams, no luck with a Mary Ann . The only 2 possibles on the baptism CD (age wise) for Mary Ann if she married before are St Peter, Mary Ann Cocks 5 Sep 1750 parents Christopher (druggist) and Elizabeth, or St Mary , Mary Ann Hollingworth 21 Apr 1759 parents Samuel & Mary
All the best

Thanks for those 2 points, Shirl. I will note them down as there are not too many of that name in the area.
