My Waywell, Whewell, Wheywell, come from Derby, St Peter's parish. I have quite a large collection of Whewell info spelt in all variations, My gggg/f was born 1792 at Meesham in Derby.

I happened to see your message immediately after reading about the name in George Redmond's 'Surnames and Genealogy' (Fedn of Family History Socs. 2002  ISBN: 1 86006 159 1. )
You might need to bear in mind that when pronounced with a Yorkshire accent - which varies from place to place - WHEWELL sounds like and can be spelt WHEWILL, WHEWIN, WHEWWALL, QUEUWALL, HEWALL, YOUELL etc.
I used to live in Birstall and there are still WHEWELLs and YOUALs around.
