Hi I wonder if anyone can help me? I am trying to find out who lived at 3,Hollister Street Bristol in 1896. My grandparents got married at St Matthews Church Bristol in 1896 and they gave their address as 3, Hollister Street. I just wonder if the folks who lived in that house could be some relation. Maybe their surname was Bolton. Kind regards Christine

Ok - it seems it was Charlotte all along!
Marriage
Jun 1881
SEDGWICK Charlotte WELSFORD Robert
Bristol 6a 130
No idea why she is calling herself Harriet in 1891 but I have checked and it is the same family!
Robert is a painter in 1891 but otherwise they are the same.

I don't quite undestand why, but it seems to have been quite common for people to give addresses where they were living only very temporarily at the time of the wedding, perhaps lodgings, as they were about to move in with their spouse, I suppose..

Hi Christine,
Please accept this as a response to your post & PM. I've searched long & hard for Hollister Street - it appears in none of my maps old & new, but I've discovered roughly where it is by studying the Enumerators description at the beginning of the 1901 Census record. What also threw me was the fact that it is St Matthias Church, not St Matthews. Hollister Street lay just off Newfoundland Road in St Pauls parish to the east of Bristol City centre. It had gone by the 1950s - probably blitzed, first by the Germans & then by the Bristol City planners of the post war period, who demolished whole areas of the inner city to provide an inner ring road (Bond Street).
