Bovington army camp
« on: Friday 03 October 08 16:07 BST (UK) »

Hi,
I am still trying to find info on my great grandad Frederick Charles Barnes b1881 d1962.on his death cert it says he was a boiler stoker at Bovington Wareham.

Does anybody know if the army would have info on him, like where he was born etc ?

                   Thanks Peter

I would think that if he was a boiler stoker he was probally a civilian employee, probally employed by the then War Department. The army probally havent got any records of him unless you know for sure he was in the military.

Peter it should be fairly easy for you to work out where Fredrick was born I have looked at the 1891 census and there are one Fredrick Charles Barnes and two Fredrick C Barnes listed so you should have no problems. Also the 1901 census show just two Fredrick C listed.

I have looked on there, but his dad was meant to be Frederick William Barnes, cant find a father and son both with the same names on the 1891 or 1901 census, this Barnes side is well hard  Undecided

Then look for Possible fathers named either Fred or William with the correct occupation. You're assuming that all forenames would be listed. That isn't so.
