Matthew Wellington Wood
« on: Sunday 06 January 08 19:43 GMT (UK) »

I am getting desperate - trying to find a Matthew Wellington Wood who was born about 1850, he married Lizzie (Elizabeth) Bott on 11th May 1873, his father is named as George Wood a contractor.

Also I am trying to trace his death, I don't seem to be able to find any record after the birth of his daughter Alice on 5th January 1876, Lizzie died on 27th January 1882 and her death was registered by her father, who together with his wife Catherine brought up Alice.

I do hope someone might be able to help as I really do not have any more ideas.

Thanks

Hi Isy,

Have you considered ordering his birth cert?

Do you have access to census?

Have a look at this in 1861: RG9/323 98 10

What do you think?  Undecided

(Edit: In 1871 he seems to be a soldier, Royal Marine Infirmary and Green Hill Schools Woolwich, RG10/781 8 14)

If they turn out to be the family - I think they look good actually - then you'll find the family (mother called Jane in 1851) at HO107/1560 344 13

BTW - have you found Lizzie and Alice in 1881? What's Lizzie's marital status?  Smiley

Evening Tati,

Just thought I would let you know what a great help you have been.

I am now in touch with a descendant of Matthew, I have now been able to put date to his birth, but neither of us seem to be able to find a death certificate.

It does appear he was alive in the late 20's early 30's, perhaps we will find the answer soon.

Once again many thanks for your help.
