I have been trying, without success, to find the parents of Isabella Middleton born about 1815 in Aberdeen or possibly Kincardineshire. She married George Rammage and in 1871 she is living at 8 Nelson Street, St Nicholas, Aberdeen. I am trying to discover her relationship to David Findlay who is quoted as her nephew.
Thank you

Hello Carol,
Have you looked for a death certificate for Isabella? If she died in Scotland her death certificate should give her parents' names, including mother's maiden name. I recommend looking under the RAMAGE spelling which the family used in the 1851 and 1861 censuses - there don't seem to be any deaths of an Isabella RAMMAGE.
See www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk (a pay per view site - certificate images available to view online).

Hi Carol,
As Anna said in her post, try looking under the Ramage spelling. There's a death for Isabella Ramage (other name: Middleton) in 1884, aged 70 years old. This should tell you her parents' names, which will help track a birth either in Aberdeenshire or Kincardineshire.
Re: the Findlays, David, John and Edwin are given as the children of John and Christina Findlay in 1881 (along with another brother, James). There's a marriage (8th Dec 1852 in Saint Nicholas, Aberdeen) for John to Christina Middleton, obviously Isabella's sister.

I have not yet managed to 'View' anything on Scotlands People - but of course my credits disappear.
What's going wrong, Carol? If it's a problem with the SP site they're usually good about refunding credits; if it's a technical problem I'm sure someone on here will be able to help.
