Searching for my g g grandfather Anthony HILBORNE
« on: Monday 07 January 08 17:10 GMT (UK) »

I have traced my g g grandfather Anthony Hilborne to Charlton Mackrell in Somerset. He was born 1809/1811 and married Sarah Radford in 1836. They had 5 children, William, Sarah, Henry, George and Elizabeth; George born in 1847 was my g grandfather. I can find no record of Anthony's parents, although there are many Hilbornes in Charlton Mackrell and the surrounding area. I would be thrilled if anyone could help me to find his parents or find any parish records in the Taunton office.

The Charlton Mackrell PR transcripts have a couple of HILLBORN/HILBORNE families in CM from 1813, so there is every chance one of those couples were there before then and may be Anthony's parents.

William and Anna HILLBORN had a son James Wm Davis HILLBORN bapt 27 Sep 1815. William was a labourer
Thomas and Ann HILBORNE had a son William HILBORNE bapt 3 Mar 1816. Thomas was a tailor.
Anthony and Mary HILBORNE had a daughter Amelia HILBORNE bapt 8 Apr 1821. Anthony was a labourer. An uncle of your Anthony perhaps. Married 13 Jul 1820 - bride Mary STOWER

1836 4 May
HILBORN Anthony b. otp
RADFORD Sarah sp otp
wits: John GIBBS; Mary Ann HILBORN; Mary Ann WAGLAND; Anthony STOWER

John GIBBS married Mary Ann HILBORN 12 Sep 1838

1833 6 Jun
DAVIS Thomas b. otp
HILBORN Eliza sp otp
wits: William DAVIS; Anthony HILLBORN; Mary Ann HILLBORN: Lydia KING

From the IGI Mary Ann HILBORNE was the daughter of Thomas HILBORNE and Ann HALE, born 18 May 1812. Eliza would appear to be their daughter as well. There were a few others as well, including a Henry and George

Hi there allibaker
Thank you for the reply about my gg grandfather. I have actually traced Anthony's parents to Thomas Hilborne and Ann Hale from a contact who visited the Taunton Record Office. But I have not managed to find anything about Thomas (b.1771) or Ann. One day I must pay a visit to the record office - difficult as I live in Bedford!

Once again many thanks JAJ Smiley

Hi there Eyesee,
Many thanks for replying to my post about my gg grandfather Anthony Hilborne. I have been able to trace  Anthony's parents - they are Thomas Hilborne (b.1771) and Ann Hale - you mentioned they had a son William. A contact found out this information from the Taunton Record Office. I also had all the information you gave me in your post, but thank you for putting it down for me. I have not been able to trace either Thomas or Ann Hale - I think I must pay a visit to the Record Office some time - difficult as I live in Bedford!

Once again many thanks

Hi, there are various members of the Hilborne family in these pages including the marriage of Anthony and Sarah.  Mary Ann Hilborne as witness - sister maybe?  Don't know if any of the entries would give any clues. Have you tried to get their marriage certificate, fathers name would be on there. With their names, date and place you should be able to find it.
