1851/61 lookup completed
« on: Monday 07 January 08 20:55 GMT (UK) »

Hello, on the 1881 census Edith Hayes aged 10 is living with grandparents Francis 70 and Mary 65 at Westwood Much Wenlock.  Have been unable to find Ediths parents in 1881 so any help to find them in 51 and 61 would be great.

Do you know who Edith's parents were?  If not, the only way of finding out who they were is by getting her birth certificate as Francis and Mary had a number of children any one of whom could have been a parent to Edith.

On the 1881 census she is Edith M Hayes

There is a birth reg for an Edith mary hayes which would just about be t the correct time and place

Hello Homeguard

In 1861 your Francis and Mary are listed in Wenlock:
Francis Hayes  Head  56  Farmer Salop Bourton
Mary      "          wife   46               "        Florrs
Jane          "         dau  11               "      Westwood?
Francis      "         son   7                 "           "
William       "           "    2                 "              "

RG9 1860 69 15

Edith's father could be Francis. Huh

Hello again

In 1851 Francis and Mary head the family with:

Ann          dau 15
Elizabeth    "   10
Richard      son 7
Emma       dau   4
Jane             "    1

HO107 1989 582 5

So Edith Hayes' father could be Richard or indeed she may have been born to any of the daughters out of wedlock.

Best to order birth certificate. In the meantime you could look up Richard and Francis' marriages on freebmd.

In 1871

I have found a Jane Hayes of correct age and birth place (Westwood) living as a neice with John and Martha Jones. There is  a 6 month girl Mary Hayes (could this be Edith Mary ??) listed as a "grand daughter" Huh

RG10 2759 51 19

I don't know whether we can make anything from this  Roll Eyes  but may be worth considering  Huh

Got it a bit wrong -but worth a thought!

This is the biggest possibility for her birth I can find
Edith mary hayes
Sept qtr 1870
Madeley
6a 636

what if they used her middle name of mary?

then this could be her
John Jones head W 58 g lab Salop the Hoors?
Martha Jones Mother 89 Keynsham? Salop
Jane hayes neice U 20 Westwood Salop
Mary hayes Granddaughter 6mths Westwood Salop

relationships seem a bit dubious - and mary's age is transcribed as 1mth -but image shows it as 6mth

RG10 2759 51 19

Possiblity?HuhHuhHuh?

Well done Suz  Grin Grin Grin

The "grand daughter" threw me a bit, I suppose there isn't such a title as a "grand neice"!

I wonder what happened to Jane  Huh

Thanks for all your help, yes, Jane appears to have disappeared, maybe she married but no trace yet but will keep on looking.
