Parish of Simpson (near MK)
« on: Monday 07 January 08 23:29 GMT (UK) »

I'm trying to build up a picture of my WASTIE surname pre-1700, and was interested to see that a Richard WASTIE is listed as being a rector in Simpson in 1410 (found on the GenUKI website).

Can anyone confirm this and give me any further information?  Would there be any WASTIEs subsequently in this parish or any of the surrounding ones?

Any leads - however small! - would be really appreciated.

Many thanks.

   Hi Pennie.....

I looked in the local office for you today .
The bishops transcripts start at 1575 and are in early english /latin so not easy to decifer. As this is a large gap from the years that your rellie was the incumbant I feel that would be too great a job.

If you contact the BFHS they will be able to do a name check for you . It could cover the whole of Buckinghamshire to see the spread of the name or by parish. It will show the number of times that the name features within their records for Buckinghamshire. They were really great in helping me look for my elusive Francis Walker.

Hi Tazzie ...

Many thanks for your reply, and for having a search around for me.  As  you say, the Bucks. FHS may be a useful source of information, and I shall contact them.

I have traced my WASTIEs back to the early 1600s - they seem to originate from the Eynsham area of Oxfordshire, and (according to a published family tree) the name seems to be a corruption of WASE or WACE.  However, I'm finding instances of the WASTIE surname around the county back into the 1500s, and am trying to make some sense of all this!  Therefore, finding a Richard WASTIE at Simpson in the 1400s is extremely interesting.

Thank you again for your help.
