Is anybody researching the Groom family, who may have come across the marriage of William Groom & Thomasine please? I believe William to be connected with the Rattlesden & Felsham Grooms but, as yet, have not been able to trace this marriage. Thank you.

Hi Rick
Thank you for your welcome message.
To the best of my knowledge, the marriage would have taken place some time before the end of 1747.

Hi Sue
I hope that someone will be able to help. However, it is probably worth bearing in mind that until The Marriage Act of 1753, marriage was a far less formal affair and marriages did not have to take place in church. This meant that many marriages prior to 1754 when the act came into force went unrecorded I'm afraid.
If you have been searching for a long time, this could be the reason that it has proved so elusive.

Hi Rick
Thanks, yes, it had crossed my mind. It would be just my luck! I have enough missing links, that I have no hope at all with, without this one. Never mind, it's the name of the game.

Thank you, yes, it seems to be more popular than I at first thought. I will have to explore a little further afield I guess! Sue
