I am loooking for any info regarding George b.1854 and Joanna b.1884 England. They went to Cape of Good Hope with two of their children between Oct 1885 and 1887. Other children born in SA.John b.1887. George 1888 .Charlie 1891. Blanche 1893. On the 1901 census the children were living as boarders in Swansea England. There is no trace of their parents and wonder if they died in SA. Have looked for death notices on NAAIRS but nothing shows up. Be gratefol for any help. Cashmilon

Hi Cashmilon
I have found a Army Service pension Record WW11, for Charles Finning b 1891 South Africa it was signed in Swansea on 6 dec 1910 ..states father as George Finning and brother John Finning as next of kin...
seems that George, the dad, must still be alive!
Do you have this record?

Hi again:)
There is a marriage of a Blanche M Finning ... I wonder if that would give you more clues as to whether her dad was alive.
Blanche M Finning = Alfred B King Dec q 1913, Exeter, Devon vol 5b p 163 (their child; Blanche L King , born Dec q 1914, Exeter Devon -mother's maiden name : Finning)
Louisa Rose Finning to either; William John Earl or Wilfred Kennedy vol 5b p 517 Devonport, Mar q 1908 (I see that Louisa Finning was born in Bristol circa 1885 in the 1901 census, I think this would be her birth reg , Louisa Rose Finning Dec q 1885, glocestershire)
If you had these two marriage certs , then you would hopefully be able to narrow down when George Snr, died.
I think that Louisa married William Earl as there is a birth of a William J EARL with mother's maiden name ; FINNING Dec q 1913, Devonport Devon.

Hi Deb My goodness you have been busy.Thank you for all the info:I have the service record for Charles and it does appear he (George the father)was alive in 1910,but i also have the marriage cert for Louisa to William Earl in 1908 and it states on there he was deceased.I also have a marriage cert for son George for 1908 but does not say deceased,he marries again in 1914 and that is the same. If the father was still alive then he was living in Weston Super Mare,Somerset. No trace of wife Joanna (sometimes called Anna) and i still believe she may have died in S.A. I also have another marriage cert for son John who married 1915 and it does not say deceased on there.Thank you for help. cashmilon
