I can trace the William Andrews i found above to 1881.Am curious how do you know the Father was the Vicar Thomas Davies? When did William change his name?Do you have Williams marriage cert? And what further details do you have on William?

Hello Welsh Lady, This has been a long lasting mystery in the family, as William Andrews was taken in at seven by a John Morgans a farmer at NantyMoch Llangadock, and is in fact on the 1851 Census. On the census it mentions nursing which is interesting and wonder if it is either seven years or seven months, will check births. What would have been Nursing? Cymru

Right have found right one now hes mistranscribed as Andreas on Ancestry however hes born approx 1843/1844.
1851 Nantymoch.Llangadock,Carms H0107 Piece 2470 Folio 133 page 5
John Morgan,Head,39,Farmer 24 Acres,Llangadock Gwenllian Morgan,Wife,44,Llanduessant,Carms Elizabeth Morgan,Dau,13,Llangadock Catherine Morgan,Dau,9,Llangadock Sarah Morgan,Dau,6,Llangadock John Morgan,Son,3,Llangadock William Andrews,Nursing?,7,Illegitimate son,Llangadock
In 1861 hes still with the family now has their surname William Morgan,Son,18,Llangadock.So birth is approx 1843/44
Think you need to send for his birth cert.

And here he is in 1881 and has changed his name to his Fathers surname? Nantmoch.Llangadock,Carms RG11 Piece 5380 Folio 48 Page 10
William Davies.Head,38,Farmer 43 acres,Llangadock Margaret Davies,Wife,30,Llangadock David Davies,Son,1,Llangadock Hetty Morgans,9,Servant,Llangadock
Was wondering if Hetty relation of his adopted parents the Morgans? Also strange an adopted child got the farm.Another avenue would be John Morgans will?

Hello WelshLady, Sincere thanks for your help, you can no doubt see my puzzle, have dubbed Thomas Davies the Naughty Vicar in recent times and just wonder if their might have been some religious cover up. Have tried the National Archives for a will, but no luck yet. I have recently though interestingly enough been told there was some dispute over the will. Seems odd that he is left the whole farm ahead of John Morgans real family? The Vicarage in Llangadock playing a part perhaps!? Nothing like a good story in Ancestry, especially from South West Wales from those days!!Cymru

Does William name his Father when he marries? How did you know Thomas was the Father from family papers? So William only took on the Davies name after his Father Thomas Davies had died?
Went back to 1841 to see if that would help with the Father but doesnt H0107 Piece 1386 Folio 5 Page 1
Thomas Davies,35,Clergyman Mary Davies,35, Mary Davies,1 John Davies,65,Clergyman Anne Davies,20,F.S. Sarah Rees,15.F.S.
Think you need to send for birth cert dont think there will be many William Andrews born 1843/44 Llangadock.Name not that common at that time.
Will keep you in mind when i next go to Record Office see if William was baptised maybe by his Father!!!

I have come across people in my tree taking on their Fathers surnames later on.One of mine born illegitimate(Father named on baptism)and when her mother died she went to live with her father and was acknowledged so in the census but kept her baptism (mothers surname) but her Father was named on her marriage cert and signed the cert so obviously acknowledge her as his own publicly even though he was married to someone else when she was born . However i shouldnt think that Thomas Davies A Vicar of the Parish Church would have publicly acknowledged an illegitimate son.
