My Rootschat Website

Hi everybody!

I am one of the people who took advantage of the old system (where Trystan did all the work!!) so my site is now 2 months and 2 days old!!

In that time I have had 369 hits!

I have also had lots of encouraging emails and PM's from visitors.

There are still zillions of things I would like to add, it is just finding the time!!

Once again I would like to say a huge Thank You Trystan and Rootschat for making my website possible.

Well, after a few days of downloading, unzipping, uploading, deleteing & re-uploading, modifying, & re-modifying...

Here's my effort:
http://ss-rhondda.rootschat.net/

It is a big learing process, and so I shall be making regular additions, alterations & adjustments.
Would love to hear from anyone with links to my tree.

Hi Amy

well, now that trystan has told me why my index page wasnt loading (something really simple wouldnt you know?!) I'm looking for inspiration before I start to make proper use of my own freespace space!

I love your biography of Charles - sort of makes people come alive when you can piece together a history for them using the known facts. Excellent idea!   I hope you dont mind if I "steal" this idea and try to do something similar?

As my space only has a quickly made front page at the moment I'll not launch it on the thread yet!

http://lawrence-relations.rootschat.net/

I also have a another free rootschat webspace [without the phpGEDview] which i'm working on and altho i made a webpage using Ancestry family tree, i cant get it looking as nice as some others i've seen.
Amy's or Rhondda  for example, how do you get the nice graphics? when i preview via the AFT ,it looks good, but doesnt appear anything like that on my page..whats the secret Please?

Its inspiring looking at the excellent results from other rootschatters' sites.

Hi Netty,

Glad you liked the site!! Please feel free to steal as many ideas as you want!!! When I was planning the site I visited lots of peoples sites (not just Family history ones either) to see what worked best. I think the scret is not to have tto much 'different' information on one page. Rather - Split things into similar topics and make it as easy to navigate as possible.

Have fun!!

Amy,
your site is fantastic!
Interesting, lively, and very informative!
I shall have a go at doing one with the scraps of info I have discovered on my lot!
I can't wait to find out what happens to Charles when he comes out of the workhouse, it's a real cliffhanger!

Amy,
This is great, how did you learn so much about this man?
I mean his height and everything!

Anyone who thinks family history is boring and it's just about collecting names and getting back as far as you can, or finding Royal or posh connections should look at your site!

I like the way you are portraying Charles's life as a narrative.

Many congratulations on an excellent piece of work, I think mine will be very very boring in comparison!

I've also reached the conclusion that buying birth certificates isn't a waste of cash as I'm having trouble trying to find my John Hopkins, I've ordered the certs of three likely lad's to see which is the best match with the info I have, as I can't rely on census info alone.

Thanks Sal!! I really glad you like my site. I have at least 4 more "biographies" in the pipeline, but they take so much research! I dont just want to put xxx married xxx in 1892, they had 6 maybe 7 children. They died but I don't know when, or where they are buried. When you are writing their life story for other people, it makes you realise how much we "skip over" information. Normally I wouldn't take the time to research say, the death of their fourth son during childhood, but now I need to to give my story some oommpphh! It also make me feel closer to them.
