The only Netherbury seems to be in Dorset.

Looks like Ann WORNEM or WORNESS...and Netherbury - but I don't think there is a Netherbury in Kent  Undecided

Just had a quick look on the IGI...there are no Ann WORNESSes at all, but lots of Ann WARNHAM/WARNAM etc.

Having said that, none were baptised in Kent, and there's only one who married a WISE (coincidentally also a George) and that was in 1768 in Packenham, Suffolk  Huh Huh Huh

Berkshire Villages site says there's a North and South Fawley - the original script from Abiam says South Fawley (written slightly above)  It was apparently the setting for Hardy's Jude the Obscure and was Jude's surname.

Can't find it on a map of Berkshire, unless it was one of the places moved into Oxfordshire in 1974  ?

Hi Abiam

Berlin Bob shut me out somewhere in a locked topic Sad

There is a Fawley in Berkshire, South of Wantage on the edge of the Lambourne Downs.

The last marriage (of Elizabeth Kenford?) may have taken place at Winkfield.

What are these bits of paper?

Good luck

I'm not shutting anybody out - the more helpful eyes, the better - but as Abiam posted this image on three other boards, I thought it would be helpful to keep all the answers together.

O1dgobbo kindly resized the image
Hi Abiam

No real help to offer but it might be easier for others if the illustration is made smaller - see below.

Good luck

Thank you everyone for your views and Gobbo for making it smaller.
My apologies for putting it on so many boards but I thought more people would be likely to have a view as I am inclined to look at the boards which may have clues in my known areas.

In answer to Gobbo, the words of part of a list written by a relative over 100 years ago.  And of course all of it is clear except the words we really want to know!

Thank you all for your help, will digest and see where we are,

Hi Abiam

There is an IGI record of the marriage of George Wise and Elizabeth Kentfield on 20 Oct 1801 at Winkfield, Berks.  It's an individual member submission not a transcription of parish records so you may want to check against the Winkfield records.  I imagine that these will be in the Berkshire Record Office, Reading, but cannot be certain.

Good luck

Thank you Gobbo,

I do actually have that one and at the moment am inclined to think the

marriage in "Netherbery Pakenham" is the right one and think that it could

have changed over the years possibly like this:

    Netherberyinkent   changing into NETHERpaKENham

There is a Nether in Pakenham and the dates all fit in with the children they

had, OF COURSE I KNOW ABOUT WISHFUL THINKING!!!

Thanks again everyone,
Abiam

Hi Abiam

The modern Ordnance Survey map shows "Nether Hall" immediately south of Pakenham but I cannot see Netherbery in the immediate vicinity.
