Family History Research Course Thursday 10th January -7 February 2.00 – 4.15 Learn how to research your family history and make the most of a helping hand as you get going. An innovative 5-week course using museum, library and archive resources. Sessions will take place in the following venues: Museum in the Park, Stroud (10th, 24th and 31st January), Stroud Library (17th January) and Gloucestershire Archives (7th February). Discovering the History of your House Wednesday 12th March Saturday 15th March 9.30 – 12.30 A 3 hour workshop profiling the various sources of information that are available to trace the history of your house. Delivered by local historian Averil Kear, and is suitable for those with little or no experience. This is a fitting launch-pad for those who would like to ‘go it alone’ as well as a taster for those considering the ‘Your House Has History’ course. Your House Has History THURSDAY 1 May 8 May 15 May 22 May 29 May 3 June Trace the history of your house with local historian Averil Kear. A 6-week course introducing the sources of information available and providing “hands on” support in finding and using these to unravel the past about your home. Maximum of six places available. Come on your own or share your place with a partner. Make the most of Gloucestershire Archives’ late opening hours and continue with your research until 8pm. Arts and Crafts Day at Minchinhampton TUESDAY 10 June 10.30 Find out about the Stroud Valleys’ strong connection to the 1850 – 1915 Arts and Crafts movement and see how this influenced architecture in the area. Tour of Worcester Cathedral Library SATURDAY 12th July 2.30 As a long-standing part of Cathedral life, the library is home to its medieval manuscripts and archives, which, amongst other things, give an insight into medical organization and knowledge in a late medieval Benedictine cathedral priory.
