KIDDs emigrating? after 1841
« on: Tuesday 08 January 08 23:04 GMT (UK) »

Looking for a family of KIDDs.

Can't seem to find anything about them after the 1841 census when they were in Haddenham, Cambridge, England.

Think they may have emigrated just not sure where to so thought would start with the US.

Benjamin KIDD born 1796ish
wife Ann
children James KIDD born 1820
Mary Ann KIDD born 1826
Sarah KIDD born 1827
Rebecca KIDD born 1831
Benjamin KIDD born 1837

Think they were all born in Haddenham, Cambs.

Any suggestions??
Can anyone find any of them anywhere?
Thanks in advance,
Lilygirl.

Could this be the family?

1850 Census, Illinois, LaSalle, Troy
Roll: M432_115
pg: 286
Benjamin Kidd, 55, male, wagonmaker, value of real estate $20,
                        b. Eng
Ann                  57, female, b. Eng
Rebecca          18, female, b. Eng

Also found this:

1860  Census, Illinois, LaSalle, Troy Grove
Roll: M653_197
pg: 849
James Kidd, 40 male, wagonmaker, real estate value$1600, per-
sonal estate $250, b. Eng, can't read or write
Eliza Kidd, 28, female, b. Eng
William, 8, male, b. ILL, attends school
John, 4, male, b. ILL
Ann, 66, female, b. Eng, cant read or write

And, on the following website, I found:

http://www.cyberdriveillinois.com/departments/archives/marriage.html

Illinois marriages:
LaSalle County:
Sarah Kidd m John Salt, 31 Mar 1849  Vol A   license #2148

Mary Ann Kidd m Allen J Knox, 12 Dec 1849  Vol A   license #2267

James Kidd m Elizabeth Edgcomb, 29 Sep 1850 Vol A license#2429

1870 Census
Roll: M593_244
pg: 735
they are still in Troy Grove.  Lists James Kidd 50 (retired farmer), Elizabeth Kidd 38 (keeping house), and Benjamin Kidd 16 (works on farm).

WOW that's fabulous thanks a lot!
Is there any reference numbers to the census lookups at all so I can locate them again?!

How exciting thanks.

Benjamin has a couple of brothers I can't account for either maybe they went there too??

James KIDD born 1805 Haddenham, Cambridge, Eng.

and William KIDD born 1813 Haddenham, Cambridge, Eng.

Thanks again,

I've sent you a PM.  I'll get the references and put them on the original reply.

In 1880
Roll: T9_223
pg:490
enumeration district: 79
Benjamin, b. 1854, is living with his brother, William, and family, in Ophir, LaSalle, ILL.

I'll see if I can find your other "losts".

Can't find her in the 1860 census.  Maybe someone else, with clearer eyes can spot her.  Sorry.

Lilygirl,

According to the cemetery inscriptions, Harrison died in 1865 and served in the Civil War.  Hephzibah died in Dec of 1860 at the age of 25.

Zacharriah and Mary Gage are also listed on the link that genealiza gave.

Harrison resided in Stockton, Illinois when he enlisted as a in the Union Army on 8 Aug 1862.  He enlisted in Company I, 96th Infantry Regiment Illinois on 4 Sep 1862.  He mustered out on 10 Jun 1865 at Nashville, TN.  He was promoted to Full Corporal on 10 Jun 1865.

It appears that Cyrus Gage remained in Stockton through the 1930 Census and married a woman named Clarabel(le).  The 1880 Census has Howard and Cyrus with Zacharriah and Mary Ann in Stockton and they are listed as Zacharriah's nephews.

In 1900 Census in Pleasant Valley, IL (same county as Stockton), there is a Howard Gage, born Aug 1857 in IL, parents born England, occupation farming.  He was married for nine years.  Wife was Martha E. Gage, born June 1867 in Pennsylvania.  They had no children.  A servant named James Donahue was living with them.

On Ancestry's One World Tree, there is an entry for Cyrus Rolland Gage born 4 Oct 1854 in Stockton, married Clara Belle Perry 4 Jul 1882 in Galena, IL, and died 11 Aug 1930 in Stockton.  Clara Belle died 28 Mar 1944.  They had a son named Howard LeRoy Gage born 10 Mar 1883 in Illinois.  No sources are listed for any of this, so take it for what it's worth.

Hi there,

WOW thanks peoples that's really a lot to go on. Very interesting.

So Cyrus and Howard are nephews of Zachariah so one of Zacharriah's brothers is their father.

Zach seems too young to be father to Harrison tho doesn't he?? wonder what the relationship is there of have I missed something?!

I've been following Harrison thru his marriage so don't know much about the family as yet am still piecing bits together!

thanks again.

I figured Cyrus and Howard were Harrison and Epsibah's sons, based on the 1860 Census that grub posted.  Therefore, I would guess that Zacharriah and Harrison were brothers.
