Hi All

Just additional background. There is a birth showing on SP for a Francis John Stewart in 1907 in Canongate, Midlothian. Birth year would fit better with marriage that year for the parents.

Regards.

Monica

Thanks very much for this - it would explain why in the family he was known as Francis!

Thanks to everyone for their input with Aunt Julia's death but I now have more info which would suggest she died in England!!

I have just visited family in Edinburgh and was telling them about my difficulties in finding her death to be told "oh she died in England somewhere". I could have screamed!

Yes indeed!

I have searched from 1930 to 1940 and not found it yet.

Were you ever able to confirm whether James Stewart and Julia divorced?

No I wasn't. However after discussing it with family again this weekend we all think it unlikely for a couple of reasons -

1. If they had divorced why would she be in a car with husband in England?
2. Why would she never see the family again if the car accident was a story to cover a divorce?

I will keep hunting for her death.

I have one possibility of a Julia C H Stewart (my Julia was Julia Coleman Stewart nee Haig) who died in 1925 aged 48. (My Julia would have been 45)

Yep, I see where you are going.

That death in 1925 sounds promising given the initials  Smiley
