According to the 1841 census my ancestors were living at Redhills Farm Torthorwald. Elizabeth Henderson was the farmer and head of the family and living with her were her children Catherine and William. There is also a Mary Henderson age 20 living there and we have been unable to find out anything about her at all. Is she another child , a relative or a worker! We also wondered if she may be Williams wife but have not been able to trace her at all. Any help would be appreciated.

thanks for help, yes we know about William - he is on the family headstone in Torthorwald, he died in 1842 & headstone states he is 2nd & youngest son. Will follow up all the leads you have given us about Thomas

I had to join in as I have just seen a photo of my great grandfather William Dickson - married to Agnes Henderson, daughter of Robert Henderson and Jean Grierson of Torthorwald, Dumfries. Would appreciate any information on the family. I have the same photo that was posted and I also have the photo of Agnes Henderson. They belonged to my Mother and she passed them on to me.
I also know that they had a post office/store in Torthorwald. I also have photographs of the family headstone.
