One of my gggrandfathers was Benjamin Benns, barge builder. On 1871 Wandsworth census he gives his birthplace as Yarmouth. He died in Battersea workhouse later in 1871 aged 87. I have traced 3 of his sons in the London area who were also barge builders. I have no other info on him apart from his sons all declared on various census that they were born in London & Battersea area circa 1817- 1820. I understand that the Benns name is East Anglian in origin.
