An ECCLES in Devon?

I don't normally frequent this board as most of my roots are 'up north' - Lancashire mainly - but I have a dilemma!

An ancestor of mine - James Eccles - married Agnes Cross in Chipping, Lancashire in 1818 but according to census returns he comes from Cornwall (West Looe is the best description/transcription I've come up with). Now you may think I'm on the wrong board and should be posting next door in Cornwall BUT two people on Genes Reunited appear to have 'my' James Eccles born in Plymouth c1798. Unfortunately I'm not getting replies from these people as yet but I wondered if anyone hear could help with tracing him further.

I've tried the IGI but it seems that the churches covered are more non-conformist ones and I'm guessing he's CoFE because he was married in CofE church. No idea of the names of his parents or anything so come to a dead end!

Any help gratefully received!
