I'm trying to obtain further information on my Great, great grandfather John Clisham(1841 - 1894) and his parents. As such, any further information would be greatly appreciated!!!
Starting with John; my great, great grandfather, I have gathered the following information:
He was born 'in Ballinamore, parish of Outeragh near the town of Leitrim', in 1841 to John (A shoemaker) and Anne Clisham (nee Byrne). His family relocated to Liverpool at some point before the 1851 England Census, where they are shown to be residing in Liverpool, England. His place of birth was obtained from his military service record, where he served with the 47th Regiment of Foot.
At the time of the 1851 England Census, he was one of four children. the family was as follows:
John Clisham b. 1811 Anne b. 1816 John b. 1841 Timothy b. 1844 Charles b. 1846 Mary b. 1849
However, prior to John's birth, it seems the Clishams may have originated from County Mayo, as the only occurences of both of the surnames Clisham and Byrne together is in County Mayo...in the parishes of Bohola, Drum and Toomore to be precise.
Has anyone had any other dealings with the Clisham surname during their research? If so, I'd really like to hear more!
Regards

IGI shows 2 births for children of John Clisham & Ellen Glue (would this be your John born 1841?): 1. Sarah Teresa born 20 JUne 1878 Dublin, Co.Dublin (father- William John) 2. Mary Ellen born 12 Feb.1880 Curragh Camp, Co. Kildare
There were also Clishams in County Galway- John Clisham born 1823.
Yes, that's them. John married Ellen Glue in Fareham, Hampshire in June 1876. They had three children:William, Sarah, and my Great grandmother Mary Ellen. Johnwas in the army, and the movements of his regiment tie in with his place of marriage and the birthplaces of his children.
The 1823 John Clisham is interesting.....Galway and Mayo boreder each other, don't they?

I came across your post by chance. I'm fairly new to the geneology game although I have tracked down some of my ancesters. Charles Clisham (born 1846) is my great-grandfather. I wondered if you had any further information on his parents and brothers/sisters.
I've just joined RootsChat so am finding my way around. It's all very interesting.
