The Wertheim Family

Millar Family, Census lookup please, 1861-81
« on: Friday 11 January 08 08:54 GMT (UK) »

Hi guys,

Can anybody find the Millar/Miller family for me please, living around the Whitburn area of West Lothian. I am trying to find the birth place of James Millar, born about 1825, and his wife Christian or Christina.
They had children that I know of :

Catherine c1853
Alexander c1858
James 1859
John c 1861
There was also an Andrew I think but am not sure.

Would be grateful if anybody could find this family on the 1861-81 census' as I am struggling to find James' parents. The census will give me some idea of where he was born.

Nothing on IGI for James's birth, but this looks like a possibility for him with his family in 1841 in Whitburn (going by the names of his children). Everyone showing as born in the county expect for father William:

William Millar    50, Cotton H L W
Catherine Millar    45
William Millar    15
James Millar    10
Betsy Millar    7

Also, in 1841 Whitburn, possible family for Christina:

Alexander Melvin 40, Cotton H L W
Agnes Melvin    45, born outside County
Agnes Melvin    15
Robert Melvin    15
William Melvin    15
Christian Melvin 12
Alexander Melvin 9
John Melvin 6

Death certs. for James and Christina would confirm parents.

Regards.

I am going from memory but I think I do have Christina's parents, Alexander Melvin and Agnes Weir. I think she was from West Calder.

Thankyou for the searches it will be a few weeks before I get onto SP but will see when I get credits, to attempt to find James' birth.

Im interested in the 1841, the occupation of Alexander Melvin and William Millar are the same I dont know what the HLW stands for??? James must have been quite old when he died Sad

Thankyou again Monica and Pam!
