James said he had a lot on the oil/shale industry in that area.

So Rose Anne was 3-4 years older than Catherine - maybe friends as you say  Smiley

The Cairns family also lived on Greendykes Rd, Uphall. From the article http://uk.geocities.com/fnsnclr@btinternet.com/genealogy/examples/Townsend/TownsendChrono.htm it seems that greendykes rd housed the miners and their families. These houses were torn down in the 1960's.

James - i am guessing you would have alot of this info already.

There is a website that lists fatal accidents and disasters in scottish mining villages www.mining-villages.co.uk

The site also lists mining accidents - I found edward reynolds in 1896

1896 August 26 Pumpherston (Oil shale) Edinburgh Pumpherston Oil Co Ltd Edward Reynolds Miner 36 Falls of sides Fall of oil shale at face of close place.

Once again - Thank you Gadget for the certificates/registers - without your help I would still be searching for mary anns birth.

Gadget and James - if at any point I can help you with anything (not sure if you have any australian connections) just let me know - i will be more than happy to help you both out.

Hi Daria  Smiley

I'm really glad that we've got you on your way  Smiley  It's exciting when you find information like this for the first time!

I've been trying to track down their emigration but so far have not got anything definite. Is there anyway of checking at your end - I've been looking for Reynolds and O'hara.

I just looked on find my past and I cant seem to find any matches - the ages dont match up....I will keep looking.

All I know is that she got married 5.12.1912 in Brisbane. I am applying for a copy of their marriage cert this week - this can take up to 6 weeks (very frustrating) however this will not give me any information regarding her emigration. I will try the national archives and see if there is anything in their files.
