1851 and 61 census Look up Please
« on: Saturday 12 January 08 15:24 UTC (UK) »

Help required please for 1851 and 1861 census look up.

I have tried and better tried to find Lawrence Feeney/Fenny/Fenney/Feny or any other variation of. Born c.1831 in either Ireland or Leeds West Yorkshire, but he is being very illusive.

I have found him on later census working as a Brickyard Labourer.

Hope someone can put me out of my misery.

Hi Pauline,

there is this one: 1871 RG10; Piece: 4553; Folio: 157; Page: 2

1 (Lowdens Yard) St Peters Street Leeds

Laawrence Feney head married 40 yrs bricklayer's labourer b Leeds
Jane Feney wife 36 yrs b Manchester
Patrick Hart son in law 17 yrs b Manchester
Joseph Hart son in law 16 yrs b Manchester
Mary J Hart daur 9 yrs b Northumberland Newcastle
William Feney son 16 yrs hawker b Leeds
John E 13 yrs b Leeds
Thomas 9 yrs b Leeds
Lawrence 1 yr b Leeds

I would imagine son in law means stepson in this case.
In 1881 Lawrence is with a Thomas aged 16 yrs.

best wishes

Many Thanks Heywood

I have that one, but I think that RG10 is for 1871 and I am looking for 1851 and 61.

Thanks for looking

so ... have you considered the odd name above Margaret in the 1861
RG9; Piece: 3377; Folio: 80; Page: 13

William and John are there - if they are the right ones.
The man has been transcribed as Lacy Teny b Ireland.

If Lawrence is born Ireland then he may have only arrived post 1851.

best wishes

Thanks very much. I should have mentioned that Lawrence was married twice. First the Margaret Kelly in 1852, and then again to Jane Hart, can't find a record of that marriage though.

Thanks Heywood,

I think you are right about Lacy Teny, all the dates and names seem to fit (ish). Have you have any luck with the 1851 census. I knoe her was around then because I have him living in England on the 1841 census.

Hi Pauline,
yes I noticed that you had him in 1841 so he can't have arrived lately from Ireland.
I had as good a search as I could but can't find him yet. Neither could I find the marriage of him and Jane Hart.

just in case you haven't got them - here's Jane and family in 1861:
RG9; Piece: 3801; Folio: 35; Page: 24

there is a possible death for Andrew - Leeds 1867.

That's great, no I hadn't got the one for Jane.

I can't find her marriage either and the freebmd site is on a go slow this afternoon
