Hi All, This is a big longshot, but i am hoping that somebody may be able to help me out. I am trying to take advantage of the special offer on the Ancestry.com site on the printing of a family history book, to get one done for a Cousin who helped me out a lot with our shared family line, in time for her birthday as a suprise. However, i am short of some details on her fathers side. She had previously given me some details, as she wanted a printed report done, which i have used to pull together the basics (i think) using the census returns (however the spelling of the names keeps varying), however without the time to get marriage/birth certificates it is a bit like a house of cards. I only need to get details of another 2 generations sorted out, and was hoping that somebody might either know the families involved or have access to parish records that might confirm/deny the connections i have made. Here is the information that i have pulled together.
Father - James William Lindsell, b 1902 Romford District, Died 1 Oct 1986 Havering District, was married to Lily May Wellington (whom i have the full details of).
Grandfather - James Thomas Lindsell, b 1867 (approx) in Herongate, D 1933 Romford District. Found in 1871 in Dunton (RG10/1658), with a father Thomas, mother Jane, and siblings Fanny & Ellen. Found in 1881 in Rawreth (RG11/1768), with a father Thomas, his wife Jane, and siblings Ellen, Annie & Jane. Found in 1891 in Rettendon (RG12/1384), with a wife Mary A, and daughters Ellen & George. And finally in 1901 in Ilford (RG13/1652), ), with a wife Mary A, and daughters Ellen, Ethel & Jane and sons George & Francis. Now i found a marriage on the BMD index's for Rochford in Q3 1887 for a James Thomas Lindsell to a Mary A Overal, which fits with the 1st child (Ellen) being born approx 1888 in Rawreth (from the 1891 census) Grandmother - Mary A Overal (assuming above marriage is correct), b 1862 Great Burstead. On the 1891 & 1901 Census with James. In 1881 appears to be in Surrey (RG11/0758) as a Domestic Servant. In 1871 appears to be in Rawreth (RG10/1667), with a father George, his wife Mary Ann, brother George and sister Lizzey.
Great Grandfather (1) - Thomas Lindsell, b 1837 Hockley. As per James Thomas found in above places in 1871 & 1881, but not found after 1881 on census. In 1861 found in East Horndon (RG9/1075), with wife Jane Elizabeth and daughter Fanny. In 1851 appears in Rayleigh (HO107/177), with mother Sarah, brothers John & George and sister Elizabeth. and finally in 1841 in Ashingdon (HO107/337), with Thomas (father ?), Sarah (mother ?), John (brother ?) and Elizabeth (sister ?). Now my cousin gave me the maiden name for his wife as Whale, but i have been unable to confirm this via the BMD indexes by searching for marriage. Great Grandmother (1) - Jane Elizabeth (Whale?) b 1837 Laindon. On 1861, 1871 & 1881 with Thomas, and again not found after then. On 1851 believe to be in Hackney (HO107/1505) at the District London Orphan Asylum. Great Grandfather (2) - George Overell, b 1827 Great Burstead, suspect died Q4 1879 in Braintree District. On 1871 census as above (under Mary). In 1861 appear in Great Burstead (RG9/1076), as a servant house keeper. Then in 1841 he appears to be in Little Burstead as an Ag laborer (HO107/322), on his own. I have been unable to find him in 1851, or after 1871.I have found a marriage entry on the BMD indexes for Q4 1861 in Billericay District, for a George Peter Overall to a Mary Ann Smith, which would fit with the date of Mary's birth in 1862 Great Grandmother (2) - Mary Ann (Smith?) b 1831 Felstead, On 1871 census with George, not trace on any census after then, and various options for 1841, 1851, 1861 but unable to pin down due to no other evidence, and few Mary Smiths's exist !
Sorry for the length of the message, and i hope somebody maybe able to help out.
Richard
