Tazzie,

Good luck I don't know how well kept was, but at least some of those registers have been read before.

Any relevant notes in the margin by the vicar would also be of interest.

   Hi Drax.....

The registers are mostly good however a couple of gaps here and there ...this is what I can confirm...

Bapt  Mary Elketon March 10 1722
           Ann   Elcaton Jan      17 1724
           James            March 26 1727
           Elizabeth       May 14 1729
           Jane              Jan    2 1732

Could not see a William circa 1734.

Could not see the marriage of William & Hannah.

Pages have not reproduced very well  some very faint but the surname did not stand out like the others.
Burials from 1753-1758 are repeated 3 times so the marriage page may be missing...ie burials scanned again instead.

Children of William & Hannah  (prepare to add to your list)

    John        Feb 11  1759
  William      Oct 11   1761
  Ann           13 Jan   1765
  Ruth          31 May  1767
Mary          30 Dec   1770
  Hannah      May 1   1774
  Martha       19 April 1777
  Joseph       18 Jul    1778

There is also ....Ann  Eagleton d William & Elizabeth bapt Nov 6 1763

  Burials  that could find....

  John Elcaton  March 12 1763
  John Eagleton  Nov 17 1776
Martha Elcoton July 10 1778 (dau of Wm & Hannah).

If I have missed anything just shout .

Hi tazzie,

I have found a couple of queries in the records for the "Elkerton" in the Boarstall parish.

If you are still interested and have the opportunity, I would appreciate a check in the registers.

The most important is the marriage of  Ann Elkerton and James Finch on 9 Apr 1787. In the notes here, Ann married Thomas Paver 12 Oct 1785 at Launton, Oxon.  which is 6 miles North.  It seems improbable but it cound be a second marriage (I doubt I would find Thomas Paver's burial, however was she married as a widow in 1787 ?)

This obviously affects later generations so I have to follow it up.

The other one concerns the baptism of William of William and Hannah in 1761. You have October 11, but here it is 11 Feb.

No stone unturned !

Hi,

I just happen to have borrowed some Boarstall PRs from Bucks FHS. I was hoping to find a Jones family, but it was not to be - so, perhaps they can do someone else some good!!

The baptism for William in 1761 is Oct 11 in my transcribed version as well.

The marriage in 1787 of James Finch & Ann Elkerton does not state that she was a widow (which, of course, doesn't necessarily mean that she wasn't!). It states that James was 'of Mid. Clayton' and names the witnesses as Edw.Miller & Bartholomew X Finch.

In the transcription I've got, I can't find the baptism of Jane in 1732 but there is a baptism for William Elkaton 31 March 1733/34 s/o ----& Mary.

There's also a marriage 22 Nov 1756 William X Elcaton & Anna X North. Witnesses: Wm. Norcott & John Newman.

It just goes to show how these different transcriptions can vary!!  Roll Eyes

Well, I am almost lost for words -

Re the marriage, are you looking at a transcript or an image of the parish register?

The fact that you have found the marriage means that the image I have (without the name of register on it) is a correct one.

As a final check, on the same register page there should be  a marriage no. 68 of Leonard Neighbor ? and Mary Parker.

If so the scan will hold, and on the second line appears to say

Elkerton of this parish (inserted above and before "were published" which has been read as "wid. of this parish" ! ! !
