occupation or location?
« on: Sunday 13 January 08 15:00 GMT (UK) »

Jo kindly sent me the marriage details of James BARNETT and Elizabeth PEARSON in 1830 from Old Machar:
"James BARNETT steps (or ships) of Gilcomston (see attached) and
Elizabeth PEARSON College Lane, both in this parish..."

Can any one explain the bit after James (occupation or location) and/or where it was?

Many thanks.

Looks like the steps of Gilcomston were in Aberdeen.

Thanks for that, I had thought it must be an occupation in shorthand before the location!  Embarrassed

best wishes,

Ian.

Put "Gilcomston steps" into streetmap and you'll get this -

Thank you so much for the Aberdeen Street listing.  I'd given up peering at the National Library of Scotland maps for Shuttle Street!
