Fanny Lascelles
« on: Sunday 13 January 08 15:37 GMT (UK) »

Fanny Lascelles married Barnett Ford in 1845.Census details show her birth year as approx 1831 in Canterbury. Her father according to Who Was Who entry for Barnett was a Cpt Edmund Wilson Lascelles.I can't find her birth entry or details on the 41 census. It is of course possible that the family lived in India at some stage.Any help would be appreciated.

Hmm, a 14-y-old bride isn't unknown, but she does seem a bit young.
I'd suggest getting the marriage cert and trying to find that 1841 family in 1851.

Following barnett & Fanny forward, her birth year veers towards an earlier date 1829/1830.

1861 (kids with his mum, a solicitor's widow))  RG9/2394; F27; P9
1871 RG10/189; Fo/27; P9
1881 RG11/0; F61; P44

1891: (no fanny) RG12/16; F85; P36
1891: Fany, in dorset. RG12/1647; F5; P4
1901: RG13/16; F14; P19

Thank you all for your help.I will send away for her marriage cert and see if that throws any light on the matter. Re the reply concerning the Hon Lascelles, I think that this might refer to the Lascelles Family of Harewood. It's such an unusual name and I do wonder if there is a link between these families. The name Lascelles was passed through the family as christian names for sons, as was the name Barnett. All help appreciated.

Hi Gwen

Fanny's birth doesn't show up the records for the Parish Churches in Canterbury.
(There's only one Lascelles Baptism, that's for John Eaton Lascelles 21st Sep 1879 Son of Percy Pellew & Lilias Frances at St Martin.)

Perhaps she was christened in the Barracks Church, or perhaps her father was posted just after her birth & she was baptised elsewhere.
Which doesn't really help, as 'elsewhere' could be anywhere! I would think you would need to find details of his military career to see where he was posted to.

Re: Fanny Lascelles: Marriage of parents
« Reply #8 on: Friday 15 February 08 15:50 GMT (UK) »

Is there a County-wide marriage index for Kent?

If so, is there a marriage of Edmund LASCELLES around 1825, perhaps in or near Canterbury?

His wife's name at this stage is unknown, although given the daughter's name, it might have been Frances.

Many thanks

Hi,

I found this on the fibis site, 'Entry from Arrivals from Bombay Calendar 1841'

http://www.search.fibis.org/frontis/bin/aps_detail.php?id=480727

the next page has Mrs LASCELLES with the same details.

It could explain why Edmund can't be found in 1841, but it doesn't tell us where Fanny was Sad

Many thanks for this very helpful discovery.

This, of course, is his second wife - they married at Merthyr Tydfil in 1837. So now I'm trying to find Edmund with both his first wife (married about 1826) and his second (in 1837), without knowing the names of either of them!!

Kind regards

Hi Casalguidi,We have in this Lascelles family Edmund, his son Edmund Wilson and Fanny,Edmund Wilson's daughter.Philip has found that both father and son were married twice - Edmund Snr circa 1802 when his son was born and later to a Catherine with whom he appears on the 41 census. As far as Edmund Wilson is concerned I have no idea who his first wife, mother of Fanny, was.Fanny was born 1829ish! There is a marriage on Rootsweb Dec 1/4 1839 in Merthyr Tydfil for an Edmund Wilson Lascelles so I will apply for the Cert and following through.
