My Great Grandmother Fanny May born about April 1860 appears on the 1861/71/81 Census living in Inkpen. Can anyone look at the 1891 or 1901 Census and tell me if there is any trace of her? She was 21 in 1881, so it is possible she may have married. However, having searched for many years I can find no trace. Any assistance would be very much appreciated. Roaming Grannie in Canada.

I looked at that one nanny Jan - and it looks like Fanny May married Walter Harry Hyde -but it also looks like it's the wrong Fanny may! 1891 Reading berks Walter H Hyde Head M 32 Telephone co foreman Westminster Middlsex Fanny wife 28 Green? Oxon May daughter 2 Reading Berks RG12 994 101 27
there is a 19 yr old Fanny may in 1881 b. henley Oxford
and in 1901 Fanny Hyde (nee may) gives her p.o.b. as henley
There is also a birth reg for Fanny may in Henley
so it doesn't look very promising

Thanks to Nanny Jan & Suz for their effort. I know for sure Fanny May was with her family in Inkpen on the 1881 Census with her parents John & Emma May as well as siblings and her Daughter Emily (my Grandmother) age 2. She was still unmarried at that time. I had hoped to find her on the 1891 Census when my Grandmother Emily would be 12, but no luck on that. Also, I have found Emma on the 1891 Census but not John with a note saying "husband not at home when Census was taken". My Grandmother Emily married in 1896 at Inkpen so I had assumed Fanny would also be there. I hope this further information may be of some help. Thanks again. Grannie

Hi,
I found this family in 1891,
RG12/971 f.53 p.10 Inkpen Gt Common
Oliver GREEN Head 25 General Labourer Berks Bucklebury Fanny Wife 28 Berks Inkpen Ada Fanny Daur 4 " " " " Patience Ethel Daur 1 " " " "
Looking at the images at findmypast there is this, which matches the marriage details found by dilly,
Oliver GREEN Sep Q 1886 Hungerford 2c 423
but Emily is not with them and I think this Fanny/ie could be,
Fanny MAY Dec Q 1862 Hungerford 2c 216
who in 1871 is age 9 with parents Job and Mary.
Regards Daisy

Dilly & Daisy, Sincere thanks for your effort. My May tree is large and Fanny is unfortunately not an uncommon name. Fanny who married Oliver Green was the Daughter of Job May and Mary Swadling. The Fanny I am looking for was the Daughter of John May and Emma Franklin. I have that information with regard to the 1891 Census. What surprises me is the fact that I am unable to find my Grandmother Emily May, who would be 12 in 1891. Of course, I know young girls as young as 12 often went out to service, but I would have thought that by 1891 Emily would have been in school. I am hopeful that someone will find Emily and that her Mother Fanny will not be far off. Grannie
