Suspect either she is his sister-in-law, or she married her cousin - that went on a lot in them thar days, esp. if you had money (kept it in the family!)

so this basically tells us that:~

James Norrys was the son of
Lady Norrys!, who was still alive in 1714 (as were all the people listed below) he was married to
Mary (unknown), they didnt appear to have any children.
James had a sister Mrs Elizabeth Norrys
and a sister Jane who married a Mr Harris, they lived in Winchester
another sister Philadephia who married Mr Bertie and they had a son James Bertie
James had a tenant at Weston, Allen Ladyman
and a servant Robert Blea
James had a good friend and Uncle, Francis Clerk ? (see note before by Brambletye) (was he actually and Uncle, was he Lady Norris brother?)
James died circa 1719

witnesses
Fran Curson
Francis Knollys
Tho Barber Samuell Turner

Looks like James's parents or Grand parents siblings need looking at....

also, didn't the name Bertie have something to do with Bray?
I cannot find a Samuell Turner in Oxfordshire either.

i thought it was, sorry blonde moment!

re Henry Bertie again, just because Philadelphia origantes in Oxon doesn't mean her husband does.

Can we find any records for a Captain Henry Bertie? (Deb?  Grin)

there is again a submitted birth for him the son of Edward Sackville & Bridget Wray which is somewhat confusing as none of them have the surname of Bertie. but perhaps it needs looking at.

Ladies who belonged to the gentry were invariably referred to as Mrs even if they were unmarried.  So his sister Mrs Elizabeth Norrys is not married at this time.

The estimated births could have come by deducing them from other family Wills - quite often if the children are under 21 in one Will and "of age" in the next. I've found quite a few submitters' entries on the IGI where I have a particular Will and can see that the submitter must have it also, and has come to the same conclusions as I have. Otherwise, they may have come from Monumental Inscriptions where it says So-and-So Buried in whatever year in the 50th year of her age etc.

i relaise some submitted entires were from parish records marriages i.e if they state of age etc they just take the required age off the year of marriage and hence come up with a birth date, likewise for a birth of a child  but i didnt know they took the details off wills also i thought they must have seen a Parish Record somewhere.

Is Sackville Edward's title? if he's a Peer, he'll be known in the style of his title rather than his surname

i don't know about Edward Sackville the entry was submitted and thats all it said father Edward Sackville mother Bridget Wray.

I wonder what sort of Captain, Henry Bertie was, my 2 x great grandfather was a Captain, but a Captian of the Lituasian mining co. which equates these days to a supervisor / foreman etc. middle man between the workers and the 'owners'

I had a sudden thought - had a look at the LDS Ancestral Files rather than the IGI, Capt. Henry Bertie is up there but conflicting views on his parentage here it seems, father given as Montagu Bertie. The Bertie Pedigree goes back to 1217, but it's all "submitted".

.................

This is all there is submitted on the Bertie file for Philadelphia Norreys and her father (so the submitter of this Ancestral File can't have seen the Will, or he'd know about her bro James):

Edward (AFN: B3MR-7V)   Pedigree
Sex:    M
Birth:    Abt. 1639
<Of Oxford, Eng>

Children
1.
Sex    Name
F   Philadelphia NORREYS (NORRIS) (AFN:B3MQ-93)
Born:     Abt 1665      Place:     Of Oxford, Eng

...also, I see that she was married "about 1684".
