Foundling's christenings
« on: Tuesday 08 April 08 21:20 BST (UK) »

Hi
I wonder if any one can tell me if a foundling baby can be christened? Or would this be impossible without his parents
He was born 1889.....
Kind regards Chris

There is nothing to stop a foundling being baptised. It was the godparents who were involved in the ceremony, not the parents.

Hi Stan
Thank you for your message.
That's great we thought maybe the church would not recognize a foundling and so reject him.
Good so maybe we will be lucky and find his christening.
Thanks for your help.
Kind regards Chris

Hi Chris,
Just to add that certain persons are  prohibited from acting as godparents. They are: members of religious orders,  married persons in respect to each other, or parents to their children.
