Hi, I'm hoping someone can help me find my family on the above.
My grandparents came from Norway & Sweden and settled in Minnesota where they raised their families.
My Grandmother IDA REGINA HOGENSON was born on May 31, 1897 in the township of Cedar in the County of Marshall, MN. She was the daughter of Hans(1861) & Annie(1866) and had siblings Theodore(1889), Emma(1892), Ella(1902) & Fred(1905). I have the land patent made by her father in 1889 but this was made in Polk County so I'm sure the family moved.
My Grandfather, ALBIN MORTENSON was born July 22, 1893 in the townshop of Sandsville in the county of Polk, MN. He was the son of Ole(1848) & Marie(1855) and had siblings, Olaf(1877), Eliza(1882), Hilmer(1886), Minus(1889) & Peter(1895). His father's land Patent was made on June 12, 1889 in the county of Polk.
Both families went to Canada in 1905/06 but I would like to find them on any of the previous census or any land patents before that to narrow down their where abouts as I would like to find the exact location of my grandparents births on todays maps. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I would like to visit the locations one day soon.
Thanks, Shearg

The 1880 U.S. Census is available at www.familysearch.org The 1890 U.S. Census was destroyed by fire The next available U.S. Census is 1900 and is available on the subscription site Ancestry Have you tried searching for the family at LDS site (same address as for 1880 census)? Also, many areas published local/county histories so you could try searching to see if anything's been printed.

Thank-you both for all your help. You gave me some new leads to follow.
I joined the site and found the Mortenson family in the Higdem, Sandsville & Esther Township in Polk county and the Hogenson family in Cedar County but I tried all day yesterday and couldn't get the orginal document to come on screen. I'll keep trying. Thanks again, Shearg

Land Patents: http://www.glorecords.blm.gov/
There is a Hans Hogensen land patent in 1901 in Marshall Co - might this be Ida's father?
