Hi Joan,

Welcome to Roots Chat!

I have found a marriage of William Adamson to Elizabeth Hunter on 14 Jan 1798 at Clackmannan. This was a submitted record by a member of the LDS site. Sometimes these prove inaccurate however with the actual date given this may mean it is correct. I checked on Scotland People site, there are 2 entires for same marriage

1 14/01/1798 ADAMSON WILLIAM ELIZABETH HUNTER/ M Clackmannan /CLACKMANNAN 466/ 0040 0526 VIEW (5 CREDITS) ORDER

2 14/01/1798 ADAMSON WILLIAM ELIZABETH HUNTER/FR1535 M Alloa (Clackmannan) /CLACKMANNAN 465/ 0050 0324 VIEW (5 CREDITS) ORDER

Visit scotland people, http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk and register and you can download certificate for £1.20, this will be an Old Parish Record, which does not give too much info, depends on how bad you want it.

Hi Joan

Welcome to Rootschat  Smiley

I can only find one William Adamson born circa 1770 in Alloa, Clackmannan - bpt 24 Sept 1775 to Thomas Adamson and Janet Dawson.

These names don't tie in with any of his children though:

Robert
John
William
Isabel
Christian
Henry

There could be other children as there are big gaps between the above.

Undecided

A wider search in Fife on Scotlands People  comes up with 7 possibles but none that 'leap' out. As Tom Says, it might be worth you having a look to see if any seem likely.

Regards

Thanks folks, this is information that I already have, however I am very doubtful that he actually came from Alloa. Even though thats the only records that seem to be at Scotlands people?

The only child I didn`t have was Robert so that actually makes 7 kids that they had. Do you know when Robet was born?

My actual dates for the start of the family is 1803 and I also thought that was a rather long time span between marriage and 1st born?

Its Williams parents that are proving to be elusive. I do have a couple of candidates for the position but I really need to be sure before I adopt them into the family. John Adamson and Isabel Kilgour.

Thanks again folks, I`ll keep trying.

The John and Isabel sound a strong possibilty  Smiley  What source are they from?

Also, have you investigated the Donaldson, used in son William's name?

Tom has given the birthdate of Robert:

Quote
Robert Adamson b 31 Oct 1798 c 04 Nov 1798 Clackmannan (Extracted)

You can view an image of the original parish record entry on SP for 5 credits + 1 credit for index searching.

Thanks for that info, it seems they just made the marriage before the birth of their 1st, but that still leaves a four year gap.

Searching the lds, + checking  scotlands people, Ive tied quite a few repeated names and it all sort of ties up. But you know what its like with lds, kids appear with parents who were old enough to be their gggggrandkids. I honestly think this is going to be a case of going to the library with a magnifying glass and pen and paper to check the parish records.

Yep checked the Donaldson cant find a connection anywhere, thought mothers maiden name so on and so forth

Thanks again.

Scotlands People records are taken from the Parish records and all the baptisms that Tom found are on there - I checked them.

As one goes back further, you get into probabilities rather than certainties. The only thing that you can do is to check all the William Adamsons of that rough age and follow them through, eliminating as you go.

We all have these problems - check out all the brickwall threads.

I'm stuck on many lines. I just leave them for a while and move to another line or help people on here.

I do leave them alone and then go back through and check everything to make sure I didn`t miss anything even the message boards. Even tried Ancestry.com for a while.

will check the brickwall thread thnx.

Think I`ll go back to the rest of my tree and just keep adding to that for a while..

thanks for your help.
