COMPLETED Flitton cum Silsoe transcript - marriage COOPER/WHITNEY
« on: Wednesday 10 September 08 14:56 BST (UK) »

The IGI has an extracted marriage entry on 18 May 1751 at Flitton cum Silsoe between Matthew COOPER and Mary WHITNEY. They baptised a daughter six days earlier in Meppershall, and A2A has a bastardy entry mentioning Matthew Cooper of Henlow and Mary Whitney.

I can't trace either of them and I'm wondering if they might be older than the usual newlyweds, as a Richard Whitney was buried in Meppershall in 1749.

If anyone has access to the transcript I'd be grateful for a look-up to see if there is any detail eg Mary, widow! I know, pre 1754 I'll be lucky to get anything more than their names, but I'm ever optimistic

Thanks in advance

David

Hello David,  hope you're having a good Saturday; taking the family to Saillon ?

The marriage entry for May 18 1751 states Matth Cooper (Henlow) to Mary Whitney (Meppershall) by licence.......

..... but there is no entry in the Marriage Licences Index 1747 - 1790

The burial of Richard Whitney on Apr 29 1749 states he is son of Richard & Mary Whitney. These had other children baptised, Ann 1732 & Eliz 1737;  & a burial entry for July 28 1739 " 2 infants buried son & daughter of Richard & Mary Whitney"

Cheers John,  off to mow the lawn it's a very sunny day in Bromham

Thanks very much John. Just back from Saillan. Sunny and hot here.

So Richard 1749 burial wasn't the Richard husband of Mary, so Mary wasn't a widow on marriage to Matthew Cooper

Another possible theory demolished!

Enjoy mowing

Thanks again
