would anyone be able to find Caroline Haye baptism bet 1852 - 56 born in Thane according to census.  She doesn't appear on GRO nor does a marriage to Frederick Chance around 1875  Did she marry Thane?  Caroline and Frederick do not show on 1881 census but son Frederick was born 1875 middx

Hi Sonia,

Do you mean Thame in Oxfordshire? I don't know of a Thane - but I could be wrong!

I've checked my Oxfordshire FHS CD, but no sign of Caroline's baptism in Thame. Around the same time, there are these 2 Hay baptisms:

24 Apr 1857 Jane Elizabeth Hay d/o Matthias, labourer & Fanny
30 Dec 1866 Alfred Earnest Hay s/o Josiah, labourer & Fanny

Perhaps this is Caroline's family - she may have been baptised nearby and moved to Thame as a youngster. I think the Matthias/Josiah above are almost certainly one and the same - another dyslexic parish clerk!!

There's no record of Caroline's marriage in Thame.

Jane dau age 4 b Thame
Sarah dau age 8 b Thame
Address 96 Highstreet

Hope this is your Caroline

Caroline is also on 1871 census with Fanny, Jane Alfred and Thomas the visitor. No mention of her father so maybe he died between census 61-71. They also moved what looks like house next door called Sun Yard. Fannys occ is launderess. Caroline is not on census after this so maybe she married. Also name is now spelt Haye.
