I found a memory stick belonging to some one in the house and as there appeared to be space on it I decided to save some of my data. However it said This is a write protected disk and would not allow me to. Can some one please explain!!!

Write protection stops anyone from modifying/deleting files on the disk or in your case adding.Best to ask the owner methinks.

Depends on whether it's write or password protected.Some are manually set others are set in the software.You can upload the contents & format the drive but you will probably need a password.Did it come with a disk?I still think you should ask the owner before you do anything.

My memory stick has a little button on the side that you can slide to write protect the data.

Like the floppy disks,they are not very secure though because anyone can flick the switch up and read the contents.So dont keep your diary in one Grin Grin
