Sinnott/Doherty Queens County
« on: Tuesday 15 January 08 01:38 GMT (UK) »

Hi
I am trying to trace my Irish roots,i was hoping you might be able to advise me.

James Sinnott @1833 of county Laois married Ann Doherty @1833 of county Laois. They marrid in 1855 Manchester Cathederal. Both thier fathers were called John.
I have checked the Griffiths valuation of Ireland the only John Sinnott from Laois in the report was from Derrylusk,Clonenagh and Clonagheen.
The only John Doherty from Laois in the report was of Kylekiproe(the well road) in Borris. These two parishes are adjoining each other.Could you help or advise what my next move should be.

Thanks
P.Heywood

Griffith's Valuation only lists head of household and without any other information you cannot be sure you have the correct families.
Since the dates you are looking for are pre-civil registration you need to search for church records (if they still exist) but in order to do so you need to know where the two families lived (parish if not townland) and their religion.
