Thomas Baker (alias Buck) Kymer circa 1800
« on: Tuesday 15 January 08 03:34 GMT (UK) »

Most people would probably say...not another Thomas Baker from Sussex !!

Looking for info on Thomas Baker alias Buck (Protestant) who arrived to VDL in 1830 on the "Royal George". He married Elizabeth Williams in Hobart in 1838.

His convict record states he was already married with 3 children so there is a branch from that family somewhere. His native place is listed as Kymer {now Keymer} Sussex born circa 1800 but his trial record states in his later life he was located around Westmeston and Ditchling.

Can anyone tell me the parish churches for those areas or any online material I might be able to pursue to find out more?? He is definately an elusive character up to now...

Peter

If you try the IGI to start with at http://www.familysearch.org you should find a few Thomas Bakers in Sussex. There is one bapt 1800 at Keymer, parents William and Elizabeth. This could be him. A few siblings there as well. They are extracted entries so can be trusted.

Do Tazzy marriage or death certs name the parents?

Thanks for reply Ian. I checked the IGI just after I posted this message and was surprised to see the family you mentioned in Keymer. I suspect that this is the family I'm after.

Tazzy marriage certificates don't show parents till much later in the 18th century and death certificates don't unless it is a child.

Cheers,

Peter
