Brightening up a old photo - Please can anyone help
« on: Tuesday 15 January 08 09:52 GMT (UK) »

Hello
Apologies for not reading scanning notes. I have resent the photo I am interested in improving.

I know nothing of photo restoration processes. I have a 1930's photo of a relative we are anxious to learn more. It goes without saying the photo is black and white. I would like to find out how to brighten it and get more definition so I can see the people more clearly.

Any advise or information would be gratefully received
Thank you for reading this

best wishes
Sue

Sue you need to rescan this at  300-600dpi (this is 72dpi) as it is very blotchy.  Irene

Sadly I cannot rescan - the original is a 1000 miles away in a private collection. I was only available to take a digital photo of the original which is stuck in a large album.

I would delete the topic and photo but I cannot find a help tip of how to do this.
I do not wish to waste anyone's time or annoy other users.

Apologies

Hi Sue

Please do not think you waste anyones time or annoy anyone. I was only suggesting that you would get  better restores with a higher scan. I am sure the others will have a go and see if they can make any improvements so don't remove this post.

Thanks to Niksmum and GAR for their brilliant efforts i now have a much better image and can see the face of a long lost ancestor for the first time.

The original photo was a poor copy taken with a digital camera out of an old album so they had little to work with.

Thanks again to everyone who offered help and advise - all appreciated
