Look up for McKENZIE and McDONALD please

I am looking for any info on my GG grandparents May Shaw Geddes MCKENZIE, born in INVERNESS abt 1845 and John Alexander McDONALD. Family lore says John also came from Inverness.

May migrated to SOUTH AUSTRALIA, presumably with her family, aged about 9. There she met and married John Alexander McDONALD. They lived in SA for approx.14 more years then moved to Melbourne Vic. Australia. May died in FITZROY Vic. in 1921.

Apart from his name being mentioned as the father of all of 12 children of their marriage, (I have May's death certificate) I have nothing else on John Alexander. He is a real mystery man. I have tried BDM in South Australia and Victoria and LDS, and various other sites, all to no avail.

I would really appreciate anything about either of them or their families.

there are to many john mcdonalds from inverness to be able to pin him down without some more info.
do you know his birthdate,parents names, etc.

may mckenzie. by your post emigrated before the 1861 census
i will see if i can find the above family in the 1861 census,
if i find them with may then it is obviously not the right ones.

cannot seem to find her in 1861 nor the family.
so possibly her in 1851.
do you have the wedding cert from australia.
if so does it not give her fathers name ,occ.
if you don't have it it might be a good idea to try to find the marriage details and send off for it.

At least the numbers tally with my arithmetic. According to my reckoning, May was 19 when she married and it was in 1965. And, as I was about to write to Wozzle, May's father's name on her death certificate was Donald McKenzie and he was a farmer.

Don't you love the spelling of name traps they come up with? Mysie  Huh

I have found a May McDonald living in @ 159 Argyle Street, Fitzroy on the 1903 Vic electoral role. She is working as a machinist and no John McDonald is recorded for that address. If  it is her, maybe he died before that date or they were separated.

That's her alright. And I'd say she was a shoe machinist, just about everyone in that side of the family were in the shoe trade.

The news won't be too welcome to my 82-year-old staunchly Catholic sister, though. Chalmers Church in Adelaide is Presbyterian  Shocked Shocked  Grin

And as a McDonald (correct?), you know how we get on with them "Soupers'!   Wink Grin
