hi eise

I have been looking for your friends family ....

I see in 1861;
Edward Hurley (b 1831, Ireland ) and Ellen (age 29) are in Bristol , Glos with their children : Edward, 5; Mary 3; Jessy 10 months.

I have found this in 1871:
Convent, Orphanage
St James, Bristol
Dighton Street
Jessy Hurley 10 inmate b Bristol
Mary Hurley 14  inmate b Bristol
Ellen Hurley 7 inmate b Bristol

Cry Cry

If Ellen is their child as well then we should be looking for the parents deaths between 1864-1871

cannot see Edward yet ...he would be about 15 or 16 ...so maybe out working already ...

will follow up

Hi again

This is Jessy Hurley's birth Registration. I think it may be worthwhile to purchase it in order to find out her mother's maiden name.

Jessy Hurley

Jane wife 41 b Barnstaple

Sarah Jane dau 10 b barnstaple
CHARITY dau 7 b Barnstaple

Hi again

I notice that you said that you had Charity and her family in the 1881 and 1901 census ...
I have found them in 1891 under the name HUSLEY ... definitely Hurley on the original ....

In 1891 they are all living on Victoria street, Barnstaple
I checked the children they had against the children in 1881 and 1901 ...

There was also a child called Edith J Hurley aged 5, b 1886. (there is a birth reg for Edith Jane Hurley Mar 1887, Barnstaple).  Edith is not in the 1901 census with Charity and Edward ...

Hi Eise

Glad to see you  Smiley

Do you have the marriage cert of Evelyn Gladys Hurley and William Ernest Sanders... That would at least give us his father's name and occupation. It would be a place to start ...

Hello again deb,

Right I have now spoken to Edna.  She tells me her father William Ernest was a cabinet maker and his father William was a shoemaker.  She is interested to know where you come into this family. and if you are related to her or her mothers side;  As you know Edna's mother was a Hurley the youngest of Charity and Edward;  They had a large family;  I am also in touch with Stanley Hurley who is Edna's cousin, his sister Barbara is also still alive and still living in Barnstaple;  Stanley lives in Dawlish which is on the Devon coast.  Not too far from Barnstaple;
Stanley as I said is Edna's cousin his father James Daley Hurley was Edna's mother, Evelyn's older brother;
James was born 2 Feb 1883;  He married Mary Elizabeth Hammett and went to live in swimbridge devon where he died. Jan 1947;
James was in WW1 apparently and while there was badly gassed which affected his health for the rest of his life.
William John Searles was born before charity and Edward were married so wasnt Edwards son but he was brought up with the family. He is the eldest of the siblings.  He was in the Royal Navy also. Petty Officer first class and in 1901 he was at the Port of Valletta Malta;  His eldest son Frederick also joined the Royal Navy and there is a photo of him on my ancestry tree.
You ar welcome to view but i will havbe to have an email adress to give you an invite as i said.
Also William John searles married Margaret German in Chelsea 1916.

Hi Eise

I am not related to your friends family ... i just like to search for missing relatives and help others do the same . I am very interested in the Devon and Cornwall boards as I was born in Devon but most of my ancestors were from Cornwall.

My great grandfather was also a chief petty officer in the RN and came from Tavistock ...

I would love to help you and your friend fill in the gaps ... having a tree would definitely make it easier for me to search ....

So if I can help in anyway with any tidbits for your friend , I would be happy to
