Hi again

I have been on national Archives where I think I have found William James Searles Naval record ... It can be purchased on line ... I have my great grandfather's service record as well ...They are so fascinating as it gives you where and when they were at sea , promotions etc ... I wonder if your friend would be interested ...

here is the record number ... and link
Online Document ADM 339/1
Name Searles William John , 159645 Chief Petty Officer 1870-1900
Date range: 1914 - 1919.

http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documentsonline/details-result.asp?queryType=1&resultcount=1&Edoc_Id=7522662

here is another online doc of his ...note the same serial number , but different ADM number
Online Document ADM 188/234
Name Searles William John , 159645 of Barnstaple, Devon
Date: 1874.

link:
http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documentsonline/details-result.asp?queryType=1&resultcount=1&Edoc_Id=7375014

I will look for more

deb  Smiley

added    the 2nd document gives William John Searles DOB as25 October 1874 ... I wonder if Charity put down the 'birth' father's name .... would your friend be interested in folloeing that line if his name came to light ?

hi again

William Ernest Sanders is proving to be a little elusive .... I cannot find his marriage to Evelyn which would give us info as to age etc

Does Edna remember Ernest's mum name and/or his siblings names ...anything may help as William snr. may have died before the 1901 ...

Hi DEb,

You are a bit like me then,  I have my own family tree who are Birds and Wood.  (the Woodbird tree); Also other family members trees i have done which are now between 5 and 6 generations.  One tree the Gell Nunely tree is now huge due to a lot of help and info from a contact in Australia.
I am however at present helping Edna with her tree.  I am stuck on the Sanders as we have no one who knew them still alive apart from Fanny and Wiliam;  I will keep slogging on.
I dont know whether i can send you my email on here as i have tried twice and you havent said you received it.  I need to have an email of yours before i can invite you to see the tree.  It isd new but we are doing ok and have more photo's coming which will liven it up a bit.  My wood bird tree has many photo's and is looking quite good.

I am back again.  Edna tells me her Sanders family were farmers?  She recalls going there and being made to drink this horrible creamy milk.  however iannot find a farming family that fits the bill to date.  They need to be in or around Barnstaple and this is where i get stuck;  maybe you can help there;  Eise

Hi Eise

I have found a Farmer Sanders in Wembworthy ...but I cannot connect them to William Ernest  Undecided

I have also been looking on the complete marriage index for William Ernest and Evelyn Gladys' marriage ..no luck so far . I do believe the marriage cert would be of great help ...ie age, place, witnesses etc.

When was Edna born and is she the eldest ..if not who was and  when was their eldest child born ...that will give me more of a date range to find their marriage .

I will email you soon ... on my way out ...bbl
