I am desperately trying to find out info about Walter Parkinson Garner (Parkinson being his mother's maiden name)
he was born 29/11/1872 St Pancras, London England, he emigrated to Australia prior to 1923, in 1923 he is on a New York passenger ship to New York.
His home address is Auckland NZ up until that 1923, I believe he returned to NZ after his trip to New York, he was married, I haven't been able to find a marriage in England as yet.
I would be eternally grateful if anyone were to come up with some info about this man and his family, his father was living in Goodmayes, Ilford Essex England as at 1923
Yours in anticipation
Louisa Maud

I suppose you have all the England information?
His birth reg district was marylebone and on census he gives p.o.b. as Marylebone -by 1891 he is in Essex with his family
I have found a marriage reg for a Walter P Garner -but it is in Wellinbobough district (Beds/Northants)
Dec qtr 1915 Wellingborough 3b 499 Walter P Garner Gladys W A Cooper 3b 499
and there is a birth for Gladys Winifred A Cooper Dec qtr 1896 Wellingboro 3b 132
if this is your Walters marriage, then his wife would have been a lot younger than him.
Hope this helps -not hinders
Suz

Thank you both for the information
At the moment I do not know who Walter Parkinson married, with a name like his there can surely be only one, Parkinson being his mother's maiden name, if only we all did the same, it would be so much easier, the New York passenger list of 1923 shows he is a married man, I think the marriage in 1934 must surely be his second marriage, do you know where it took place?.
What he was doing in Wellingborough I do not know, unfortunately it only shows an initial for his second name, I don't think I found him on the 1901, I must double check this as he might very well have been in Wellingborough,
NZ archives, are they easily accessible? I need to look for a death for poor Gladys, I assume she died very young
regards
LM

As I said -it's only a possibility-but I couldn't find a Walter P Garner birth other than yours
I couldn't find him in 1901 -wonder if he was in theArmed Forces -alot of men are missing off the 1901 as they were fighting the Boer War.
Just a thought

I wholeheartedly agree with you, I have my husbands Gt Grandfather missing off the 1901 yet we knew he was in one of the corps, we even had his attestation papers yet nothing was mentioned. I would love to find out more about him, I have a cousin in NZ who went out in the 50's, I am going o see what they can find out for me, I don't think they will help much as they are all out at work or aged now, but I live in hopes. Tomorrow I am going to a local archives to check the electoral registers to see how long W G Garner lived in the address given.
Thank you for your help, every little will help me to solve the mystery.
regards
LM

Hi,
I am linking this to the thread I found info about Walter on, just in case the findings overlap
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,278937.msg1626397.html#msg1626397
I think the Walter P GARNER marriage found by Suz could belong to,
Birth Walter Percy GARNER Dec Q 1890 Wellingborough 3b 119
there's a 10 year old Walter P GARNER and a 4 year old Gladys WA COOPER living in Earls Barton, Northants in 1901.
Regards Daisy

I have located the marriage of Walter P Garner in Wellingborough, they did not confirm that his father was W G Garner, I suspect not, so perhaps I won't order it
Thank you very much for your impute, I have today been to the Essex record office only to find the Goodmayes address in 1912 is at Redbridge, I don't think I will be able to get there yet, foiled again
Best regards
Louisa Maud

Hi again That must be him, so he must have gone to NZ prior to 1897 then, no wonder he is not on the 1901, I will have to look at passport applications, I wonder why he went, I think he came from a professional family, his father was a stock broker. I would love to get hold of this marriage cert
Thanks again
