Traveller - Ladies Outfitter

Hi All,  Would it be possible for somebody to please clarify what the above profession would have involved?  Does anybody know where I can can some more information about it from?  Many thanks in advance brads

Hi
I don't know what period you're writing about, but in the mid-20th century this would have been a guy who drove (probably) around with a vanful of sample outfits which Ladies' Outfitters  would choose from.  The kit was later made up & sent to them for resale.  As I recall the travellers were usually charming, so probably working on commission.

Thank you for your reply.  I was talking about the 1930's.  This does not sound like the kind of person who had quoted this as his profession.  But you never know he could have turned on the charm so that he could sell things.  Many thanks again brads

My ancestor Agnes ROBERTS was a travelling draper in the first part of the 20th century, but she basically went door to door selling fine silks.

Hi,

I think he could have made the title seem fancier than just a traveller to make it look good on his sons birth cert.
