Surname Interests - Linlithgow
« on: Monday 11 September 06 10:27 BST (UK) »

I have several surnames of interest in and around Linlithgow.  For some names I have done quite a lot of research, while for others I have done little.

DAWSON (Linlithgow) This is the family of distillers who owned St Magdalenes and lived at Green park and Bonnytoun.

Thomson (Linlithgow) as in Wyville Thomson of the Challenger

Kellie (Linlithgow) originally from Australia.  I have them in Linlithgow in the late 1860s, but where did they go?

Ramage (Edinburgh and Linlithgow)

McKell [various spellings]

Lesslie (Linlithgow) Lived at Boghall House, Linlithgow

Mitchell (Linlithgow)

Morison (Linlithgow) originally from Banff

Hutcheson

I would be pelased to hear from anyone with connections to these lines.

Don't know whether this is too far removed. On my wife's side:

Margaret THOMSON b.13/9/1798 at Newbattle, Midlothian, of John THOMSON and Euphemia NICOL.
She married George DOBIE 1816, at Liberton, and second marriage to David ARMSTRONG 1836, also at Liberton. I have children and descendants from both marriages, however, their surnames were not THOMSON.

Though in saying that, one daugher from first marraige, Helen DOBIE married Adam THOMSON, and were living in Liberton in the 1851 Census, with mother Martgaret/THOMSON/DOBIE/ARMSTRONG.

Miska,

Thank you for the posting.  My main Morison is Alexander Morison (1825-1902) who married Frances McKell Dawson (1847-?) at Greenpark (a large house by St Magdalenes Brewery, Linlithgow) on Sept 26 1889.  Owing to the age of the bride I suspect that there were no children, but I don't know, so any help appreciated.

Thank you Russ
I Don't think there is a connection. no Alexanders I can find. I know there were at least two different Morrison familys in Linlithgow. I have an idea our John is the son born in 1799 to Thomas Morison and Elizabeth Duncan
but until I can find his death cert I can't be sure.  thanks again Miska.
