Blagdon and Brockley information
« on: Tuesday 15 January 08 22:50 GMT (UK) »

Hello all,

I am from Australia, and apart from googling the names Blagdon and Brockley, I don't know much about these towns except that my ancestors originated from them.

How do I find parish records etc. for these areas?? I have found the following information on worldconnect but would like to confirm them.

John Baker (born abt 1785 in Brockley, north Somerset)
married
Mary Weaver (born abt 1786 in Wrington, Somerset)
around 1810

They had 8 children, the 5th one was

John Baker (born abt 1814 in Blagdon, Sommerset)
married
Eliza Matilda Jones (born Oct 1815 in Llargne, Carmarthenshire, Wales)
on 15 FEB 1838

Thank in advance for your advice

Hi Clair,

Does the info you found say where John & Mary were married?

Hi Clair
Blagdon, Brockley & Wrington are within 4 miles of each other.
Marriage possibly at Wrington place of birth of Mary Weaver unless her parents moved to another village.
I can tell you the marriage was NOT at Yatton or Congresbury both larger villages 1-2 miles north of Wrington (I have Marriages 1800-1837)
Best bet at this stage ianstallwood@hotmail.com?

Thanks for your responses guys,

All I have is what I wrote in my first post. Although I have their first child, Mary Harriet BAKER being born on 7th May 1808 in Blagdon?,

Seeing that John Baker was a solicitor - was Blagdon big enough to support a solicitor back then?

John Baker's father was Samuel Baker (also a solicitor) who apparently lived in Aldwick Manor, Blagdon.

Hi
Ther is no John Baker/Mary Weaver marriage in the Somerset Marriage Index 1808-1812. Could they have married in Bristol?
