Bridgens/Bridgend surname
« on: Monday 07 June 04 19:59 BST (UK) »

Hello!
Is anybody researching the surnames Bridgens or Bridgend in Staffs?
My GGG Grandmother was named Rachel Bridgens, b. 1831 in Burslem daughter of Thomas and Catherine.

Any info RE: Bridgens would be appreciated.

Hello Robin! Thanks for your help.
The Thomas and Catherine Bridgens who are indicated n your reply may be the parents of Rachel, who would have been married in 1851 to George Elsby. They would have been living in either Burslem or Wolstanton. Also, Rachel had a sister named Prudence who was also in the first household mentioned.

Is there any way that I can see the index for Thomas and Catherine Bridgens?

Thanks again.

Rachael           Wife  21?                 b Burselm Staffs

There is also a Thomas Bridgens  b 1792 with a mother Sarah listed on the IGI which may be of interest

Yes, this is Rachel and her husband George who had a number more children to come. Their daughter Ann, later married one Joseph Paine and had a son named Joseph also.
I took a look at the IGI in regards to your note on Thomas Bridgens, son of Sarah. It appears that this Thomas' father was named Henry. Thomas and Catherine Bridgens had a son named Henry and a daughter named Sarah. This is good evidence as it points towards a naming pattern within the family that continues for another generation or two.

I look forward to hearing from you and seeing the census images.

Ryan.
