Does anyone know what documentation had to be provided prior to migration to Australia from London.
As far as I can tell very little information, if any, was collected on departure. It seems that it was an arrangement with the shipping agent and sponsors in Australia.
Recorded detail seems only to exist on arrival in Australia. For example NSW public record searches.
Thank you John, I am most grateful for that and I will follow the line of enquiry up. I felt that certain details would need to have been supplied somewhere when families were migrating but had no idea where that would be. It is even better when it might be in our own Australian records. Kind regards and thanks again from Carley.
You should do a search of the NSW BDM listings. There is a marriage for a Dorothy at Kogorah and 2 deaths for Williams in the same area. It should make sense to you if you don't already know.
Thanks John. They are the correct family and I have those certificates.
I have now sent off a request for further information on their Immigration and keep fingers crossed that there might be something there to give a lead on the birth of Dorothy KEABLE. If her birth date is correct, she left London the day before her 4th birthday in 1912.
