At the 1901 census my grandparents Andrew Peate and Annie Peate (nee Kynaston) and their children James Kynaston, Sarah Ann Kynaston, Annie Peate and Ethel Peate were living in Whixall at 107 Whixall Moss, Civil Parish Whixall, Ecclesiatical Parish St Mary, Rural District Wem, so far I have been unable to find the where abouts of Whixall moss does anyone know where it is or was? I have not visited Whixall yet (I live in Devon) but hope to later this year and wondered if I will still be able to find Whixall Moss Peter
I love the idea of the Peate family living at Whixall - an important peat bog in Shropshire. Until the early 1990s peat was still being cut there but now it's an important National Nature Reserve.
DALBY - Suffolk and, after 1860, Birmingham. EBENEZER - Cardiganshire & Glamorgan. GARVEY and GRAHAM - Mayo. HUBBARD - Birmingham. MAUND and LEWIS - Shropshire and Birmingham. MORGAN(S) - Cardiganshire. SLADE - Somerset and Worcester.
My brother lives in Whixall - I live a few miles away - and we both play for their bowling green team!
I have taken their dogs for many walks past the Moss - will try to find a photo of the area.
Cheers
Keith
